Central Venous Catherization

Abstract
We have had 178 cases of Central Venous Catherization on 140 patients; 138 cases of percutaneous infraclavicular subclavian vein cannulation 30 cases of percutaneous supraclavicular central venous cannulation, and 10 cases of internal and external jugular venous cutdown according to the method of Dudrick Yoffa and Carcia et al from June 1971 to December 1972.
Among the 138 cases of the infraclavicular approach, 123 cases were on the Rt. side and 15 cases on the Lt. We were unable to cannulate 13; four cases developed complications; 1 anterial puncture and 3 pneumothorax developed (see table 1).
Of the 30 surpaclavicular cases, ¢¥we were unable to cannulate 6 and 2 developed complications, one pneumothorax and one extrapleural infusion (see table 2).
The complications were promptly diagnosed and treated and discharged without sequelae. We could not find mention of catheter length in children in the literature. We inserted the catheter to the Louis angle, the manubriosternal junction. There were no fatal complications in the entire series.
